The network, which is distributed to 100.8 million U.S. homes, can be seen in 224 countries and territories, offering a signature mix of compelling, high-end production values and vivid cinematography across genres including, science and technology, exploration, adventure, history and in-depth, behind-the-scenes glimpses at the people, places and organizations that shape and share our world.

Programme Interests

The entire Discovery Networks International network – whole globe. Sarah only commission’s shows that will air everywhere – so they are full commissions, and she will always take every commission back to the US for their consideration too.

We’re looking for shows that resonate with audiences all around the world, from Moscow to Mexico and from Mumbai to Milan – please bear that in mind when submitting ideas. To further reflect our global audience, we are keen to find more international talent, particularly strong and unique characters that are passionate and credible. And above all – it must be entertaining.

Looking For

Our key priorities are:

  1. Adventure/Survival (authentic characters doing unbelievable things, where failing is an option and the stakes are high)
  2. Pop Science (we call it “casual science” – you’re learning tons, but may not realize it as you are so entertained)
  3. Mystery (the detective and investigative format works well in all genres – so we like the mystery ‘format’ – whether it’s paranormal, science or landmark)
  4. Natural History – epic, landmark, high end, defining the genre

We love true-life adventurers and hardcore experts in their field. Whether there’s a camera crew following them or not types, who just can’t help exploring and challenging themselves. We want to fall in love with their infectious enthusiasm. And we are interested in character driven shows if they are based outside of the US and have real heart and soul.

Science and engineering is a big pull for us still - TV ideas that make us think are in our sweet spot, shows that reveal things we don’t know and give us some take out that we can share at work the next day – those water cooler factoids we all love to know. Are there new ways to make science entertaining? Or make format clips shows have some science take out? Or get the audience to play along?

We like formats. But you should be able to sum up your format idea in a few clear bullet points.  What’s the opening, the key beats through the show, and the ending? Our shows have to be packed with take out and content. They can have a sense of humor, not pure comedy but with the capacity to make audiences laugh while still remaining factually provocative and entertaining.
