About Channel

TLC is a global brand that celebrates extraordinary people and relatable life moments through innovative nonfiction programming. A top 10 cable network in key female demos, TLC has built successful consumer brands around series including Cake Boss, and has transformed Fridays into "BrideDay" with a lineup of wedding-themed programming anchored by the Say Yes To The Dress franchise. In 2012, TLC had 28 series averaging 1 million P2+ viewers or more, including four series that averaged 2 million P2+ viewers or more: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Breaking Amish, Long Island Medium, and Sister Wives.

TLC is available in more than 99 million homes in the US and more than 300 million households in over 150 markets internationally.

Programme Interests

Fish out of water reality – serialized, lightly constructed with extraordinary real people (ensemble cast a priority).

Factual entertainment formats – these should explore extreme behavior, characters, subcultures or situations.

Character-led observational documentaries – real-life characters, not celebrities. The talent must stand out visually and as characters. It also helps if the world in which they operate is visually spectacular or iconic.

Extreme Lives & Subculture – the central premise must be based around people doing something extreme but the ideas could be as broad as OCD, bad teens, moving abroad, etc.

Medical and Health – innovation is key, we are not looking for medical ideas where transformation is the main premise. Experts are OK but not essential and will not be ‘intervention’ experts, but people with talent that we follow as they go about their day to day lives.

Shocking Real Life Stories – personal and emotional, yet shocking stories of extraordinary people. Visual or visually demonstrable ideas are most welcome.

Parenting – must feel innovative or have a killer tabloid angle.

Food (not competition) - we are more interested in eating than cooking!

Sex – funny, not salacious.

Celebrity-Led/Passion Projects – must involve talent who are surprising choices in general and counter-intuitive for TLC, and ideally they will be doing something unexpected or shocking. Must be noisy to generate press and social media debate.

Looking For

Our commissions should avoid female stereotypes and provide broad and entertaining content for women and their families. We want ideas that give viewers access to unique worlds, people and opportunities to explore human behavior and motivations.

Successful ideas will be lightly formatted or purely observational. The role of talent will preferably be authored, genuine actuality, immersive or journalistic.

We are only commissioning for primetime and have slots available for series and one-offs, hours and half-hours, serialized or closed narrative episodes.

What we’re looking for exactly, which will help the idea to move forward, is:
