About Channel

ITV’s broadcasting business is made up of ITV1, the UK’s largest commercial TV channel in terms of audience share, and digital channels ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and CITV.

Owned by ITV Plc, ITV’s content business also generates revenues by distributing ITV and third-party programming internationally, and through the sale of associated DVDs and merchandise.

ITV strive to provide event TV that appeals to a broad audience and is hugely talked about, from long running soaps, big game and talent shows, laugh out loud comedy to reality TV.

Programme Interests

Factual on ITV is ambitious, universal and definitive. We tell the stories of our time in an intelligent and accessible way, connecting viewers with people, issues and places they would not ordinarily come across. Our appetite is for surprising, reputation building content, in harmony with the core values of ITV. We like to take the audience to known and unknown places whether that’s behind the prison walls of Strangeways, uncovering stories along the banks of the Mississippi with Sir Trevor McDonald, or opening the doors to the exclusive world of The Savoy.

Whatever the content, what unites ITV factual is a sense of scale, breadth and an infectious curiosity. Our programming is intelligent and thought provoking. We talk in a language we can all understand and are always inclusive. This makes us accessible, where we share and bond, with knowledge and real life experiences. We get closer to the topic to gain a deeper understanding and enjoyment.

Looking For

In the early evenings, we’ve had success with character led series such as The Dales with Ade Edmonson, Cornwall with Caroline Quentin and Wild Britain with Ray Mears. The shows are escapist in tone, visually enriching and full of warmth and passion. What new territories could we explore at this time? We would like a portfolio of observational documentaries, access pieces and formats, with content that surprises and entertains the pre-watershed audience. Outside of this we are looking for compelling factual formats such as Love Your Garden and Britain's Secret Treasures. There are both 30 minute and 1 hour slots.

At 9.00pm we move into more heavyweight pieces. Here, we’re looking for a broad mix of documentaries from hard won access into illuminating worlds like Strictly Kosher, unashamedly journalistic and definitive pieces like 9/11 The Day That Changed the World and subjects we all recognise, connect to and which inspire talk about moments such as family life with The Waltons.

The holy grail is returnable factual formats. These can be elusive on ITV. Authenticity is key, where we explore life through human experience. There is nothing more genuine than the very real drama of reuniting family members and the emotional heart of Long Lost Family demonstrates the power a returning brand can have in the schedules. We would like to find more long-running series such as this that deliver powerful human narratives which feel uniquely ITV.

Perspectives is our arts strand. We have found success with pairing surprising authors with an infectious enthusiasm for their subjects like David Walliams on Roald Dahl, Robson Green and his very personal journey with the Pitmen Painters and Ian McKellan on Lowry. Great cinematography has also been a very important and surprising part of their appeal.
