About Channel

BBC Northern Ireland (BBC NI) has a unique role in delivering the BBC’s public purposes in Northern Ireland. Their aim is to create a range of local programming that deepens their audiences’ relationship with their content (in both the English and Irish language). Their vision is to create a refreshed and re-branded portfolio of high quality, distinctive content reflecting life in NI, serving both existing and new audiences.

Programme Interests

In line with the other BBC Nations, BBC NI targets dictate how they commission; 60% of our output must come from in-house, 35% from Independents with the remaining 5% in the WOCC.

Looking For

Commissioning Priorities

We operate a Rolling Commissioning process, which means that we will accept and look at ideas at any time.

Within that process, we do have some guidelines and deadlines. We brief for content twice a year at public sessions for independent and in-house suppliers. Attendance is open and you can be added to the invitation list by emailing our commissioning co-ordinator Linda McCarter.

After each briefing we will publish the latest commissioning information here and anticipate a 6 week turnaround for ideas to be submitted in response.
