About Channel

Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) is a semi-state company and the public service broadcaster of Ireland. It produces and broadcasts programmes for television, radio and the Internet. The television broadcasts began on 31 December 1961, making it one of the oldest public service broadcasters in the world.

RTÉ is financed by a television licence fee and through advertising. RTÉ services are funded by advertising and the licence fee.

Programme Interests

RTÉ programme proposals and ideas can only be submitted by suppliers who are registered on the RTÉ eCommissioning system http://www.rte.ie/commissioning/submitting_a_programme_proposal.html

 

RTÉ Lifestyle currently consists of approximately 20 peak time series on both RTÉ ONE and TWO.  The biggest slot is the mid-week 20:30 slot but they also commission programmes for mid-week 19:00 and post-watershed across both channels.  Successful series include Operation Transformation, Getaways Room to Improve, The Shelbourne, The Consumer Show and Design Doctors

Gráinne McAleer is the Head of Lifestyle Programmes since 2004 and has had various briefs as a Commissioning Editor across Daytime, Lifestyle and Formatted Programmes on both RTÉ One and TWO.   Recent commissions include:  Operation Transformation, The Shelbourne,  Mastercheef, At Your Service,  Room to Improve , Aine Lawlor: Facing Cancer, Connected, The Takeover, Don’t Tell the Bride, The Unemployables, Pet Island; How to Be Happy.    Gráinne is also a member of the European Broadcasting Union’s  Creative Forum, a group of Commissioning Editors and Channel Strategists from various public service broadcasters in Europe who promote the development and exchange of formats within the EBU.  Grainne has worked for almost 20 years in various areas of Exec Producing and Commissioning for RTÉ.
