About

As President, Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Frances Berwick spearheads the strategic oversight for four of the industry's most culturally relevant brands— Bravo Media, E! Entertainment, Esquire Network and Oxygen Media.  Berwick oversees the daily operations for Bravo and Oxygen including production, program planning, marketing, research, digital and communications.  As part of her oversight of E! Entertainment, she is directly responsible for original programming and development to grow viewership, strengthen the channel’s competitive positioning in the marketplace and extend its worldwide reputation as the “go to” multiplatform destination for all things entertainment.  Berwick added E! and Esquire to her purview in September 2014. She reports to Bonnie Hammer, Chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

Under her leadership as President of Bravo Media, the network has maintained its status as the most engaging ad-supported cable entertainment network with the most affluent and educated P18-49 audience and is now a Top 10 ad-supported cable entertainment network in P18-49 and P25-54. Berwick led Bravo into the scripted space with “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce," which will return for a second season and the network’s first scripted, half-hour comedy “Odd Mom Out.” In 2013, she unveiled Bravo’s largest slate of original programming-to-date, marking a 15 percent increase over 2012 with breakout hits such as the “Million Dollar Listing” franchise, “Vanderpump Rules,” “Flipping Out,” “Shahs of Sunset” and “Watch What Happens Live.”  In addition, the network received its first Primetime Emmy Award in the “Outstanding Reality Competition” category for “Top Chef” in 2010.  She has spearheaded innovative partnerships that have become the hallmark of Bravo Media, collaborating with Spotify, Über, Groupon, Twitter and Facebook with groundbreaking network and industry firsts. Bravo continues to deliver across every platform with high-quality original programming that focuses on the network’s passion points of food, fashion, beauty, design, digital and pop culture.

In 2013, Berwick’s role was expanded to include leadership of Oxygen Media where she spearheaded the network’s 2014 rebrand targeting young, multicultural women. In 2015, she reaffirmed the network’s commitment to developing vibrant original programming targeting millennial women by increasing Oxygen’s slate by 25 percent with new series including “Next Gen Boss,” “Living with Funny,” “Time to Quit Your Day Job,” “Pretty.Strong.” and “Douglas Family Gold.”  In addition, Oxygen grew its popular faith-based “Preachers” franchise with installments in Los Angeles, Detroit and Atlanta. Adding to Berwick’s success was the launch of “The Prancing Elites Project,” which earned the highest-rated series premiere among all key demos since the network’s rebrand as well as an upcoming second season of hit docu-series “Sisterhood of Hip Hop” in 2015.  Oxygen remains the youngest skewing women’s network in primetime.

During her tenure as General Manager of Bravo from 2008-2010, Berwick oversaw a 33 percent increase in original content and led her team to four consecutive years of record-breaking successes across all ratings and financial metrics.  Highlights include a 2008 Peabody Award win for “Project Runway" and a refresh of the brand with the 'By Bravo' tagline in 2009.  With a mandate to evolve Bravo from a television network into a lifestyle brand, the network also launched three “Top Chef” cookbooks (two landed on the New York Times best-sellers list), a “Real Housewives” franchise book as well as numerous consumer product extensions – all while delivering more than a 30 percent increase in total revenue to the network since 2008.

From 2005-2008, Berwick was Executive Vice President, Programming and Production, where she supervised all of Bravo's development, production, scheduling and acquisitions.  Earlier in her career, Berwick oversaw the development and production for the explosive Emmy-winning series "Queer Eye" after the brand's 2002 acquisition by NBC, she developed, produced and launched Emmy winners "Top Chef" and "Project Runway," two-time Emmy winner "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List," as well as the watercooler franchise, "The Real Housewives," which has since become a global phenomenon.  She has also overseen the channel's longest-running and Emmy-winning original series, "Inside the Actors Studio."

In 1996, Berwick joined Bravo from Britain's Channel 4, where she headed international TV distribution and licensing.  It was there that she sold shows and formats and Film4 Productions including  "Four Weddings and A Funeral," "Don't Forget Your Toothbrush" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway."  Prior to that, she was in the sponsorship division at Sadler's Wells (a leading London Theater), where she raised funds for stage productions.

Berwick has received numerous accolades throughout her career including two Peabody Awards, three Primetime Emmys and a National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications Award (NAMIC).  In addition, Berwick was presented with the Muse Award for Outstanding Vision and Achievement in 2013 by New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), and has also been named a Multichannel News Wonder Woman.  Berwick is a member of New York Women in Film & Television, British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT), and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS).

Berwick has a Master's degree from Edinburgh University and resides in Manhattan with her husband and son.
