About Channel

Smithsonian Channel is a joint venture between Showtime and the Smithsonian Institution.  The programming is inspired by the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum complex, and its quest to increase and diffuse knowledge. The channel launched in 2007 and since then has set the standard for factual programming in the US, becoming the youngest channel in history to win an Emmy. Smithsonian Channel features original documentaries, groundbreaking programs highlighting America’s historical, cultural and scientific heritage. Programme Interests

Looking For

Visionary programming with strong story lines. The key is to be intelligent not intellectual. Series start with 3-6 episodes generally. All programs must be shot in HD and finished in 5.1 sound.


Acquisition policy:  Should fit into the programming genres. All the programs must be HD and premiere in US.


Audience: The target demographic is men and women 25+; curious adventure seekers, who are socially conscious, and well-informed, technologically connected savvy media users.

Chris is responsible for the development of original productions, co-productions, and the acquisition of completed programming for Smithsonian Networks.  He manages strategic program alliances with producers and international networks, as well as supervises the programming slate of Smithsonian Channel.
